Allow me a moment on my soapbox. I’ve been actively using the internet in the public eye for 10+ years, and one of the things I’ve learned is that netizens will viciously judge you for any and everything, often without actually understanding the full situation and context behind your actions. It’s frustrating as hell, and the “internet jury” is just as hellish to the good people who get bombarded by it every day.

I spent 6 months straight working with Yifei, and I can say with absolute certainty that I have never worked with an actor that was as kind, giving, and focused as she was. She brought her all to every single day of shooting, and don’t forget she was working nearly EVERY single day, doing her own stunts, acting across the entire film, and never once was she unkind, entitled, or unprofessional in any way.

Meanwhile, you could hear the likes of me complaining about an early call from half a mile away . I cannot express enough just how incredible Yifei is and how she was able to bring all of her experience to a pitch perfect portrayal of Mulan, guided by the impeccable @nikicaro and brought to life by our incredible crew of amazingly talented women @mandywalkerdp @celluloidgypsy @bina_daigeler_costumedesign @denisekum @zaner737 and SO many more.

I feel blessed to have shared the big stage with someone who set such a powerful example for the cast and crew every day. Filming this movie was a grueling affair at times, and having a natural leader in Yifei was something that inspired all of us to keep our heads up and moving forward.

When you watch Mulan, you won’t see any of these moments I just described. You will only see the final product. There is so much more behind the scenes that we won’t ever see, but we can’t forget how integral it is to the final product. Sometimes it’s ok to uncloud your eyes, lower the pitchforks, and listen to the people who have spent the time and know the real people at the end of what you read online. Yifei is the real deal, an absolute gem of a human, and the perfect person to play the role of Mulan. September 4th on @disneyplus couldn’t come fast enough!

2018-2020 It’s Time!!! and We can’t wait for the world to see Yifei Liu shine as Mulan. Tackling a Chinese legend and a @Disney icon is a tall order. Yifei crushed it with flying colors. She took it to another level both physically and emotionally. She will make you proud like she made all of us proud throughout the shoot. I can’t tell you how many times big brother @DonnieYen and I would be at dinner talking about how impressed we were w Yifei’s work. She was the ultimate professional. First one on set, last one to leave. She had no ego, no diva-ness in a business where there are many. The energy she and our true Warrior General director @NikiCaro had was infectious and inspiring. As our cast and crew can attest, Yifei trained harder than any of us boys. From Military training, strength and conditioning, Archery, fight training to horseback riding and she did it without ever complaining once. The scenes between her and our beloved baba @TziMa were so delicately layered and so brilliantly executed. Mulan will break ur heart and mend it back stronger than ever. What makes Yifei so special is that she is one of the kindest human beings u have ever met. She treated everyone w respect and humility, from the caterers to PA’s to our Chinese stars to the rest of us. Throughout the film shoot, I would overhear how every department loved her focus, passion and kindness. Like I said “infectious” Now it’s ur turn to see Yifei shine in the wonderful journey of Mulan on September 4th on @DisneyPlus
